Birkirkara’s Srdjan Dimitrov’s certainly has a number of firsts to his name. During his first season playing in Malta, the Serbian striker scored the first goal of the BOV Premier League this season and also won the first individual award of the season.
Dimitrov started his Maltese adventure in style, scoring his first goal against St Andrews after 15 minutes. Showing wonderful athleticism, he headed a pass from Cain Attard past the helpless goalkeeper. Birkirkara went on to win the match 4-0.
Dimitrov continued to impress in Birkirkara’s second outing of the season against Tarxien. In the third minute, Dimitrov laid a perfect cross for Vito Plut to head home for Birkirkara’s opener. Dimitrov added their second in the 17th minute when his swerving drive from a free-kick flashed into the top corner, without giving Tarxien’s keeper Cassar the time to react.
Bernard Azzopardi, Manager of Bank of Valletta’s Birkirkara Branch presented the BOV Player of the Month trophy for August 2016 to Dimitrov who chose Dar Pirotta to benefit from the monetary donation linked to this award.
