BOV Division 2: Zejtun defeat San Gwann in clash between promotion hopefuls

BOV-Second-DivisionZejtun Corinthians defeated San Gwann 2-1 in a clash between two probable challengers from promotion in one of six BOV Second Division matches in programme on Sunday.

At the Sirens Stadium, Jan Tanti put San Gwann ahead but Kumpei Tanaka and Anthony Ewurum turned the score in favour of the Corinthians.

Along with Zejtun on maximum points from two matches are Swieqi United who defeated Gudja United 2-0 at the Luxol Stadium. Swieqi took the lead two minutes from the end of the first half through Bruno Menezes and Roderick Taliana doubled the score seven minutes in the second half.

Marsaxlokk registered a fine 3-0 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Centenary Stadium. An own goal on the 34th minute put Marsaxlokk ahead. Sergio Hili doubled the score on the 78th and Thomas Francis Grech sealed the issue with a third goal three minutes from time.

Zabbar St. Patrick defeated St. George’s 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium. Jean Claude Cesare put Zabbar ahead on the 5th minute and Samuel Buhagiar doubled the score on the hour.

Mellieha and Ghaxaq shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Luxol Stadium. A second draw in two matches for both sides. Emanuel Cutajar put Ghaxaq ahead on the 57th minute and Tristan Nappa Licari equalised for Mellieha on the 65th.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Qrendi registered their first in as they beat Mgarr United 2-0.

Zejtun and Swieqi lead the way with 6 points, followed by Marsaxlokk and Qrendi on 4, San Gwann and Zabbar on 3, Ghaxaq, Mellieha and Siggiewi 2, Mgarr, Birzebbuga, Attard and St. George’s 1 and Gudja 0.
