Under-21 side beat Latvia to obtain record number of points

UEFAUnder21A goal one minute in the second half by Jake Grech gave the Malta Under-21 side a 1-0 win over Latvia in a game from Group 1 of the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying round at the Hibernians Stadium on Friday.

The win for Latvia was a historic win as for the first time, the Malta Under-21 side managed to go beyond the five-point mark. Silvio Vella’s boys also managed to leapfrog Latvia and Moldova in the table and are now fourth. Malta had already registered an away win over Latvia, defeating them 2-1 in Daugava last year.

The team will be in action once again on Tuesday as they host Moldova in another match from Group 1. The next objective is that of retaining fourth place in the group. Moldova lie one point behind Malta.
