Third successive win for Sliema

BOV-Premier-LeagueSliema Wanderers registered a third successive win as they defeated Hamrun Spartans 3-0 at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday. A win which puts them temporarily in fourth place, one place ahead of the Spartans.

For Sliema, Roger de Souza Vilas Boas and Denni Rocha dos Santos replaced Gabriel Aquilina and the suspended Marko Potezica. On the other hand, David Cassar, Christian Maldini and Luis Vergara Rodriguez replaced Matthew Farrugia, Luke Sciberras and the suspended Sergio Raphael for Hamrun.

The Wanderers took the lead on the 31st when Christian Maldini brought down Christian Muchardi inside the area and Alex Muscat from the penalty spot with a low powerful shot gave no chance for Farrugia to save.

Ten minutes in the second half, Jean Paul Farrugia received a through pass and rounded Maldini before beating the Hamrun goalkeeper with a diagonal shot.

Nine minutes from time, the Wanderers made it 3-0 when off a Denni freekick, Gabriel Aquilina’s effort was deflected by Christian Maldini for an own goal.

Tarxien Rainbows and Mosta shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Mosta coach Ivan Zammit made six changes to the team which lost to Hamrun as Yenz Cini, Tristan Grant, Adrian Caruana, Gabriel Bezak, Dany Djoufack and Kyle Frendo made way for Manuel Bartolo, Emerson Vella, Ricardo Martin, Kevaun Atkinson, Kemmu Jackson and Dexter Xuereb.

Tarxien held the initiative but against the run of play, Mosta took the lead on the half-hour when Kevin Reid sent Njongo Priso through and the latter advanced into the area before concluding with a shot which hit the upright before ending at the back of the net.

The Rainbows levelled matters on the 58th when off a through pass by Emerson Marcelina, substitute Alex Nilsson chested the ball down and lobbed over goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo.
