Fourth consecutive win for Hibernians

Hibernians extended their positive run to seven matches thanks to a fourth consecutive win as they beat Hamrun Spartans 4-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday to revenge their first round defeat.

Leading the Spartans from the bench was assistant coach Jonathan Holland as they are yet to appoint a new coach after they sacked Steve D’Amato earlier this month.

The Paolites took the lead on the 11th minute thanks to Jurgen Degabriele, served by Bjorn Kristensen, who beat a defender on the run before beating goalkeeper David Cassar.

A defensive blunder by the Hamrun rear-guard on the 20th minute enabled Hibs to doubled the score with Bjorn Kristensen placing the ball inside the empty net.

Just before half-time, Hibernians scored the third goal after they were awarded a penalty when Renan Telles Pimenta was brought down inside the area; from the penalty spot, Clayton Failla converted.

Hamrun reduced the gap nine minutes in the second half thanks to a Jake Grech freekick which beat Hogg.

However on the 90th minute, Hibs made it 4-1 through another penalty, this time converted by Andrew Cohen after Johann Bezzina was floored by David Cassar inside the area.
