FIFA Live Your Goals Open Day in Gozo for the second time in a row

fifa-live-your-goalsThe Malta Football Association (MFA) and the Gozo Football Association (GFA) in collaboration with the Sport Promotion Unit within SportMalta and the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education (DQSE), on Friday 25th November, organised a FIFA Live Your Goals Open Day Festival under the auspices of FIFA in Gozo for the second consecutive time.

The event was held earlier today at Gharb Stadium, in which around 100 Gozitan girls representing the following Primary schools from Gozo participated; San Lawrenz Primary, Zebbug Primary, Xewkija Primary, Sannat Primary, Gharb Primary and Rabat Primary.

Attending this event were Maria Mifsud, Deputy General Secretary (Grassroots, Youth Development, Education & FSR) and Mark Gatt, Women’s National Team coach alongside Gozitan coaches of the Gozo Football Association, who were delighted in offering this opportunity to the young Gozitan girls. Both Mifsud and Gatt underlined the importance of this project as it was directly targeted towards girls in our sister island of Gozo. They also explained how the MFA is working incessantly to attract young girls to start practising football at an early age as it is important to help them build their skills when they are still between 5 and 11 years old. Recruitment of young girls is one of the MFA’s goals, as part of its Women’s Football Development agenda. The other objectives in order to strengthen this movement are the improvement of the coaching quality and increasing the amount of skilled female coaches while also supporting the Women’s Club Administration and the respective coaching sectors.

The MFA presented the girls involved in this festival, T-shirts and balloons, whilst thanking them for their participation and their vital role in making this another successful FIFA Live Your
Goals event.

The MFA & GFA are pleased with their excellent collaboration and urge young Gozitan girls to enrol with the GFA. The GFA is pleased with this annual event and the supply of Footballs and
Bibs provided by the MFA through this FIFA scheme to assist them in their work throughout the season. The MFA also expresses their appreciation to FIFA for their support in these initiatives
as it encourages them to keep working on their mission of developing the women’s game especially at grassroots levels.

This LYG Festival held in Gozo was the curtain raiser for this LYG Festival campaign for the 2016/2017. Following this event, another couple of festivals will be held in Malta, with the first
one on the 2nd of December 2016 and the other one, on the 8th of March 2017, both at Ta’ Qali.
