Hibernians, Birkirkara bow out of FA Trophy

New-FA-Trophy-smallHibernians and Birkirkara were eliminated from the FA Trophy after both suffered shock defeats to Senglea Athletic and St. Andrews respectively in two matches from the third round of the competition at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

In the first match, Hibernians suffered a 3-2 defeat to Senglea Athletic after extra-time.

The Paolites had Bjorn Kristensen sent off on the 35th minute after collecting two yellow cards within four minutes.

Five minutes in the second half, Marcelo de Souza Dias put Senglea ahead and two minutes later, the same player doubled the score. Jurgen Degabriele pulled one back on the 54th minute and substitute Andrew Cohen converted a penalty on the 65th minute to equalise and force extra-time.

Four minutes from the end of the secondf half of extra-time, substitute Ryan Dalli made it 3-2 for Senglea to put them in the fourth round of the competition where they will be facing Vittoriosa Stars or Gzira United.

In the second match, St. Andrews registered an impressive 3-0 win over Birkirkara to set-up a fourth round clash with either SK Victoria Wanderers or Mgarr United.

Karlo Kesinovic put the Saints ahead on the 19th. Eight minutes from time, Ivan Edgardo Paz doubled the score and substitute Godwin Mckay sealed the issue with a third goal two minutes in added time.
