BOV Division 1: Lija turn defeat into victory

BOV-First-DivisionLija Athletic came from behind to beat Pietà Hotspurs 3-2 in one of the two BOV First Division matches in programme on Saturday at the Centenary Stadium. A win which puts them in second place, on level points with Mqabba.

Gabriel Mensah put the Hotspurs ahead on the 7th minute and Jorge Garcia Vidal equalised on the 14th. Christian Grech restored the lead for Pietà on the 39th but Erjon Beu levelled matters on the 41st. Ige Abdellahi Adeshina notched the winner on the 69th.

Melita collected three precious points in a comfortable 4-1 win over Fgura United. Alan Borg Olivier put Melia ahead after just three minutes and although Warren Chircop equalised four minutes in the second half, Emilio Cornago San Pedro made it 2-1 on the 56th. The Amateurs increased the lead further through Toraino Singleton on the 67th and Matthew Groves on the 89th.

Naxxar lead the way with 21 points, followed by Lija and Mqabba on 20, Senglea and Qormi 18, Vittoriosa 16, Sirens 13, Pietà and Melita 12, Rabat 10, Marsa 9, Gharghur and Fgura 8 and Zebbug 6.
