Twelve Premier League players suspended

Twelve Premier League players were suspended following the weekend’s matches by the MFA Disciplinary Commissioner.

Alfred Effiong (Balzan), Alex Muscat (Sliema) and Ugochukwo Stanley Akuta (Pembroke) were banned for two matches while Bojan Kaljevic and Elkin Serrano Valero (Balzan), Steve Pisani (Floriana), Johann Bezzina (Hibs), Asani Xhelil Djeljilj and Filippo Andrea Scozzese (Pembroke), Peter Xuereb (Sliema) and Ante Bakmaz and Enmy Manuel Pena Beltre (St. Andrews) were handed a one-match ban.

Balzan will be without Effiong, Kaljevic and Serrano for the game against Gzira with Effiong also missing the clash with Birkirkara. Sliema could not count on Muscat and Xuereb for the game against Tarxien with Muscat also ruled out for the game against Hamrun. Pembroke will be without Akuta, Djeljilj and Scozzese for the next game against Birkirkara with the Nigerian striker also missing the derby against St. Andrews.

St. Andrews could not count on Bakmaz and Pena Beltre for the clash with Mosta, Steve Pisani will miss the game against Hamrun and Johann Bezzina is ruled out of the the big match against Valletta.

Daniel Scerri and Patrick Borg (Lija), Chris Cutajar and Elland Vella (Marsa), Kurt Pace (Melita), Jonathan Debono (Mqabba), Brendan Grech (Qormi), Ethan Jay Goodman, Brandon Micallef and Neil Caruana (Rabat), Shawn Borg (Zebbug) were suspended for one match in Division 1 while Naxxar Lions official Simon Camilleri was banned for two matches.

In Division 2, Joseph Fenech (Qrendi), Andre Farrugia (Siggiewi) and Margeith Scicluna (Zejtun) were banned for one match while Darren Caruana (Msida), Luke Portelli (Mtarfa), Marlon Farrugia, James Fenech and Alexander Cauchi (Santa Lucia) and Giuseppe Barone (Ta’ Xbiex) were handed a one-match ban in Division 3.
