BOV Division 2: Seventh win in a row for St. Patrick

Zabbar St. Patrick registered a seventh consecutive win to move to just one point leaders Zejtun Corinthians, who however have a game in hand, as they defeated Gudja United 5-1 in one of four matches from the BOV Second Division on Saturday.

At the Sirens Stadium, Gabriel Bonavia put Zabbar ahead on the 12th minute and Karl Sacco doubled the score on the 21st. Jean Claude Cesare made it 3-0 four minutes later. Thirteen minutes in the second half, Kurt Cutajar scored the fourth goal and Kurt Borg added another four minutes later before Steve Buttigieg scored a consolation goal for Gudja on the 68th.

Swieqi United and Qrendi shared the points and eight goals in an incredible 4-4 draw in another match at the Sirens Stadium. Qrendi went three goals ahead thanks to Giovanni Galea on the 3rd minute, Dhonathan Santos da Hora on the 28th and Dassier Sammut on the 31st. Swieqi hit back with a goal by Sean Gatt Baldacchino on the 28th and Roderick Taliana three minutes in the second half. Dylan Zarb made it 4-2 on the 71st but Sean Gatt Baldacchino reduced the gap once again on the 82nd and four minutes in added time, Kyle Muscat equalised.

A brace by Lazar Doric gave Mgarr United a 2-1 win over Marsaxlokk at the Charles Abela Stadium. Doric scored on the 7th and the 23rd with Matheus de Albuquerque de Souza pulling one back for Marsaxlokk on the 59th.

In another match at the Charles Abela Stadium, Ghaxaq defeated St. George’s 2-1. Jose Luis Carlos Lopes converted a penalty on the 9th minute to put Ghaxaq ahead and although Jordie Delia equalised on the 73rd, Phiram Sakchai notched the winner for Ghaxaq one minute from time.

Zejtun lead the way with 32 points, followed by Zabbar on 31, Qrendi 28, San Gwann 27, Siggiewi 21, Birzebbuga 20, Swieqi 17, Attard 16, St. George’s 13, Mgarr 12, Marsaxlokk and Gudja 9, Ghaxaq and Mellieha 8.
