Mosta hold St. Andrews in a draw

Mosta earned a point in a 1-1 draw with St. Andrews at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday. A first positive result for the Blues after the appointment of Zsolt Hornyak took over as their new coach which puts then one point ahead of Pembroke Athleta.

For St. Andrews, this was a rather disappointing result after earning five points from the previous three matches.

Mosta had three changes from the team which lost to Birkirkara as Neil Frendo, Luca Martinelli and Jaroslav Repa replaced Zachary Brincat, Kyle Frendo and Kevaughn Atkinson. St. Andrews, on the other hand, welcomed back Daniel Brandle after a long-term injury. He was one of two changes along with Felix Udoh Okon as they replaced the suspended Enmy Manuel Pena Beltre and Ante Bakmaz.

The Saints had a perfect start taking the lead after just 26 seconds when Ziga Kastrevec concluded a solo effort with a shot which was blocked by the goalkeeper but off the rebound, the Slovenian striker headed the ball home.

Mosta were awarded a penalty on the 29th minute when Gabriel Bezak was brought down inside the area by Daniel Brandle. However Bezak’s effort from the penalty spot was partially saved by Galea and off the rebound, Lucky Oseghale placed the ball at the back of the net.

On the 62nd, Mosta went close with a Gabriel Bezak effort turned into a corner by Jake Galea aided by the upright. Michael Johnson hit the woodwork off a Joseph Farrugia corner three minutes from time.
