BOV Division 2: Late goal keeps Zejtun top

A goal by Alan Tabone three minutes from time enabled Zejtun Corinthians to return to winning ways as they defeated San Gwann 1-0 at the Luxol Stadium in one of six matches from the BOV Second Division.

Zabbar St. Patrick registered an impressive 7-0 win over St. George’s at the Sirens Stadium – the ninth consecutive win for Alfred Attard’s side. Shalon Diacono opened the score on the 8th minute and a brace by Jean Claude Cesare on the 22nd and 54th increased the lead to three goals. Smauel Buhagiar made it 4-0 on the 54th and four minutes later, Jean Claude Cesare converted a penalty. Kurt Cutajar scored a sixth goal on the 68th and Dillon Pace made it 7-0 six minutes from time.

Qrendi survived a good comeback by Mgarr United, beating them 3-2 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Giovanni Galea put Qrendi ahead on the 22nd minute, Dassier Sammut doubled the score three minutes later and Giovanni Galea added another just before half-time. Mgarr reduced the gap through goals by Steve Schembri on the 67th and Leon Zammit five minutes later.

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Marsaxlokk shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Luxol Stadium. Andre Cassar put Marsaxlokk ahead two minutes in the second half but Ronnie Celeste levelled matters on the 66th.

Swieqi United defeated Gudja United 3-0 at the Sirens Stadium. Alan Schembri Wismayer put Swieqi ahead on the 37th. Kenneth Ekezie doubled the score on the 65th and Bruno Menezes made it 3-0 on the 90th.

Mellieha returned to winning ways as they defeated Ghaxaq 3-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to goals by Lincoln Micallef on the 27th, Nicholas Zammit on the 42nd and James Borg on the 72nd.

Zejtun lead the way with 38 points, followed by Zabbar on 37, Qrendi 34, San Gwann 31, Swieqi 23, Birzebbuga and Siggiewi 22, Attard 18, St. George’s 14, Mgarr and Marsaxlokk 13, Mellieha 12, Gudja 9 and Ghaxaq 8.
