Xewkija Tigers re-join Nadur on top

Xewkija Tigers re-joined Nadur Youngsters on top the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they registered a narrow win over SK Victoria Wanderers at the Sannat Ground on Sunday.

Dene Shields scored the all-important goal nine minutes from time.

In another match, Victoria Hotspurs defeated Xaghra United 2-1. Henrique Maciel put the Hotspurs ahead on the 67th and although Daniel Sowatey equalised five minutes later, Christian Mercieca restored the lead ten minutes from time.

In the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Sannat Lions defeated St. Laurence Spurs 4-0 in a direct clash for the top spot at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Friday. Antoine Camilleri put Sannat ahead on the 58th and a Sunday Baala hat-trick – on the 73rd, 81st and a penalty on the 91st – gave Sannat the three points.

Gharb Rangers came from behind to beat Munxar Falcons 4-1 at the Sannat Ground on Saturday to join Sannat on top. Michael Matthias Uzor put the Falcones ahead on the 34th but a penalty by Andrew Ofulue on the 52nd and another two goals by the same player on the 54th and 68th and Josef Portelli strike on the 93rd gave Gharb a comfortable win.

In another match, Qala Saints defeated Zebbug Rovers 4-2. Qala took the lead thanks to a goal by Dario Zamora on the 10th minute. Josef Debrincat equalised on the 17th but goals Steve Dimech on the 28th and 29th and Dario Zamora on the 63rd put the Saints 4-1 ahead although Ejofor Nkwocha reduced the gap with a penalty six minutes from time.
