BOV Division 3: Kalkara, Sta. Lucia share spoils in draw

Leaders Kalkara and second-placed Santa Lucia shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in a top-of-the-table clash in the BOV Third Division at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Timmy Thomas put Kalkara ahead on the 32nd minute but Alexander Cauchi levelled matters ten minutes from time.

At the Sirens Stadium, Luqa St. Andrew’s moved second thanks to a 2-0 win over Mdina Knights thanks to a brace by Lee Baldacchino while Xghajra Tornados came from behind to beat Sta. Venera Lightnings 3-1 to join Santa Lucia in third place. Rudi Carbonaro put the Lightnings ahead on the 25th but a brace by Royter Degiorgio on the 48th and 85th turned the score in favour of Xghajra who sealed the issue with a third goal on the 92nd minute.

Msida St. Joseph and Kirkop United earned a point each in a 1-1 draw in another match at the Luxol Stadium. Andrew Formosa put Msida ahead on the 21st minute but Ronald Spina equalised on the half-hour.

Dingli Swallows and Mtarfa also shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to a penalty by Karl Cilia on the 6th minute for Dingli and an own goal by the same player on the 96th minute for Mtarfa.

Zurrieq registered a 4-2 win over Marsaskala in another match at the Charles Abela Stadium. Bjorn Chetcuti opened the score on the 6th, Julien Iwueke made it 2-0 on the 33rd, Luca Nagiah 3-0 on the 52nd and Josef Felice 4-0 on the 80th. Nestor Luis Silva Canas scored twice in added time to reduce the gap for Marsaskala.

Kalkara lead the way with 37 points, followed by Luqa on 32, Santa Lucia and Xghajra 31, Sta. Venera 28, Msida 27, Kirkop 26, Zurrieq 22, Mdina 21, Dingli 13, Ta’ Xbiex 10, Mtarfa 7 and Marsakala 3.
