BOV Division 3: Comfortable wins for Kalkara, Luqa

Leaders Kalkara and second-placed Luqa St. Andrew’s registered identical 5-1 wins while Sta. Venera Lightnings joined Santa Lucia and Xghajra Tornados in third place as another round of matches from the BOV Third Division was played on Saturday.

Kalkara defeated Mdina Knights 5-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Julian Briffa put the leaders ahead just before half-time. Ryan Sell doubled the score seven minutes in the second half, Ryan Sell doubled the score and although Mdina pulled one back thanks to an Ayrton Buhagiar penalty on the 78th, Timothy Thomas scored three – on the 81st, 89th and 91st – to hand Kalkara a comfortable win.

Luqa St. Andrew’s registered a 5-1 win over Ta’ Xbiex at the Centenary Stadium. Luqa scored three within the first seven minutes thanks to George Falzon on the 1st, Lee Baldacchino on the 6th and Jason Good on the 7th. Chris Farrugia pulled one back on the 67th but Andy Portelli scored twice on the 78th and 80th to hand Luqa a 5-1 win.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Sta. Venera defeated Santa Lucia 3-1 to join them in third place. Danijel Vasic put the Lightnings ahead on the 20th and although Sebastian Perdomo equalised seven minutes later, Dylan Mercieca restored the lead on the 73rd and Francis Mansueto made it 3-1 five minutes from time.

Msida St. Joseph moved to just one point behind Xghajra Tornados after beating them 1-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to a goal by Izuchukwo Owen Anyaso two minutes from the end of the first half.

Kirkop United defeated neighbours Zurrieq 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to Ronald Spina on the 1st minute and Neil Cutajar on the 78th with Dylan Darmanin scoring a consolation goal ten minutes from time.

Dingli Swallows registered a 2-1 win over Marsaskala at the Charles Abela Stadium. Nestor Luis Silva Canas gave Marsaskala the lead on the 2nd minute but after restoring equilibrium on the 24th minute thanks to an own goal, they notched the winner thanks to a Karl Cilia penalty ten minutes later.

Kalkara lead the way with 40 points, followed by Luqa on 35, Sta. Venera, Santa Lucia and Xghajra 31, Msida 30, Kirkop 29, Zurrieq 22, Mdina 21, Dingli 16, Ta’ Xbiex 10, Mtarfa 7 and Marsaskala 3.
