Birkirkara move fourth

Birkirkara moved fourth in the BOV Premier League table, one point ahead of Floriana, as they defeated Hamrun Spartans 3-0 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The Stripes dominated from start to finish with the Spartans hardly having a single shot at goal. For the Spartans, this was the fifth defeat in six matches but they still remain eleven points clear of Mosta and thirteen ahead of Pembroke.

Hamrun had three changes as David Cassar, Luke Sciberras and Siraj Arab Eddin replaced Kambala Batusila, Philip Chircop and Leandro Motta. For Birkirkara, Mislav Andjelkovic and Christian Bubalovic replaced Srdjan Dimitrov and the suspended Predrag Jovic.

Birkirkra managed to take the lead on the 36th minute when Edward Herrera’s diagonal shot from the right was deflected by Gonzalo Malan past Hamrun goalkeeper David Cassar.

The Stripes doubled the score on the 61st minute thanks to a Christian Bubalovic header off a Miguel Angel Alba corner from the left.

Substitute Jhon Obregon Quinones was unlucky to hit the crossbar on the 83rd minute but another substitute, Srdjan Dimitrov, made it 3-0 one minute from time with a low diagonal shot from the left when served by Ryan Scicluna.
