BOV Division 1: Senglea Athletic move top

Senglea Athletic are the new leaders in the BOV First Division as they registered a 2-1 win over Pietà Hotspurs while Qormi were beaten by neigbours Zebbug Rangers in two of the four matches in programme on Sunday.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, a goal by Austin Obaje Smith on the 20th minute and a penalty by Terence Vella on the 42nd minute gave Senglea a two-goal lead before Christian Grech pulled one back for the Hotspurs one minute from half-time.

At the Centenary Stadium, a goal by Tomislav Trebovac on the 58th minute gave Zebbug Rangers a narrow win over neighbours Qormi.

Lija Athletic left it till late to defeat Sirens 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Ten minutes from time, Lija managed to break the deadlock thanks to Erjon Beu and six minutes later, Leon Muscat doubled the score with Daniel Sant scoring a consolation goal for Sirens one minute in added time.

In another match, Mqabba maintained the challenge for promotion thanks to a narrow win over Vittoriosa Stars courtesy of a Paul Chimezie goal on the 72nd minute.

Senglea lead the way with 41 points, followed by Naxxar and Lija on 39, Qormi and Mqabba 38, Vittoriosa 36, Sirens and Pietà 29, Melita, Zebbug and Marsa 24, Rabat 21, Fgura and Gharghur 15.
