Aphrodite Cup: Malta settles for fourth place after defeat on penalties

The women’s national team finished fourth in the Aphrodite Cup which was being played in Cyprus after losing on penalties to Lithuania in the final for third place.

The Maltese took an early lead thanks to Martina Borg but Lithuania were quick to level matters. With the score still draw at the end of the ninety minutes, the game went into a penalty shoot-out with Malta scoring only one through Dorianne Theuma and Lithuania scoring three.

Malta will be in action next month in the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying mini-tournament where Malta will be facing Greece, Albania and Kosovo.
