BOV Division 3: Kalkara secure promotion

Kalkara scored a late penalty to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with Kalkara at the Sirens Stadium in one of six matches from the BOV Third Division on Saturday. A draw which enabled Kalkara to secure promotion to Division 2 next season.

Iliasu Olayiwola Salaudeen put Kirkop ahead on the 45th minute but a Timothy Thomas penalty five minutes from time restored equilibrium.

A goal by Jason Good on the 64th minute gave Luqa St. Andrew’s a narrow win over Xghajra Tornados in another match at the Sirens Stadium, enabling them to move another step towards securing promotion.

Santa Lucia kept the pace with the top two as they defeated Zurrieq 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium. Gilbert Camilleri opened the score on the 6th minute and a brace by Sebastian Perdomo on the 34th and 69th sealed the issue.

Msida St. Joseph defeated Dingli Swallows 3-1 in another match at the Centenary Stadium. Clint Zammit put Msida ahead seven minutes in the second half and although Matthew Pace equalised eight minutes from time, goals by Clint Zammit and Owen Anyasu Izuchukwu in the final three minutes handed Msida the three points.

Mtarfa returned to winning ways as they defeated Ta’ Xbiex 3-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Ironically Christian Wismayer put Ta’ Xbiex ahead on the 27th. Marwan Mohammed Ali Alfarjani equalised on the 44th, David Zammit put Mtarfa ahead on the 65th and a Paul Azzopardi penalty two minutes in added time secured victory.

Marsaskala suffered a tenth consecutive defeat as they lost 0-3 to Mdina Knights in another match at the Luxol Stadium. Ayrton Buhagiar put Mdina ahead four minutes from the end of the first half, Jonathan Mifsud doubled the score on the 75th and Cachel Vella added another on the 91st minute.

Kalkara lead the way with 50 points followed by Luqa on 44, Santa Lucia 43, Msida 39, Sta. Venera 37, Xghajra 34, Kirkop 33, Mdina 27, Zurrieq 25, Dingli 19, Mtarfa 13, Ta’ Xbiex 10 and Marsaskala 3.
