Success looming for Birkirkara girls

The Stripes are currently leading the Division One table with 43 points, 10 ahead of rivals Hibernians and with a win on Wednesday, they will have one hand on the championship, assuming Hibs win against Gozo.

Still unbeaten after 15 league games, Birkirkara have been excelling week in week out and following the international break, they will be up and running to take victory home and edge closer to the title.

Birkirkara will take on third place Mgarr United, a team which often provided nightmares to them in the previous seasons while vying for the title against Hibs. This time around things look different, as Shawn Meilak’s side are comfortable sitting at the top of the table while Mgarr are involved in a third place battle with Kirkop United – (Wednesday, 20.15, Charles Abela Stadium – Mosta)

Second place Hibs will take on bottom side Gozo as they strive to take the three points and keep their title hopes intact. On the other hand, the Gozitan side are one point behind Raiders and any points from now onwards may ensure them a place in the play-off spot, avoiding automatic relegation – (18.00, Mgarr Ground)

Gozo’s relegation rivals Raiders (Luxol) will cross swords with Kirkop United. While Raiders are occupying the penultimate spot with five points, the Reds are fourth with 21 points, five behind Mgarr as they hope to place among the top three come end of season – (20.15, Mgarr Ground)

BOV Women’s Second Division

Newly-crowned champions Swieqi United will be playing their first match as winners of the second tier, as they take on bottom side Kirkop United B.

The Oranges have clinched the title in fashion as they are leading the table with 12 points ahead of Mosta and with a game in hand – (20.15, Zebbug Ground)

In the other fixture from this division, Tarxien Rainbows and Hamrun Spartans will lock horns. Tarxien are third with 17 points while the Spartans are six points behind at fourth, hence this match could turn into a six-pointer for the latter with a win, while any points for the Rainbows in this fixture would certainly guarantee them the third spot – (20.15, Charles Abela Stadium – Mosta)
