BOV Division 2: Zejtun move four points clear

Zejtun Corinthians moved four points clear in the BOV Second Division thanks to a 2-0 win over Gudja United in one of the six matches in programme on Saturday.

Alan Tabone on the 9th minute and Mauro Brincat on the 72nd handed Zejtun the three points.

Qrendi leapfrogged Zabbar St. Patrick in second place as a goal by Giovanni Galea on the 21st minute gave them a narrow win over Mellieha at the Luxol Stadium. Qrendi therefore extended their unbeaten run to twelve matches.

At the Centenary Stadium, a goal by Sergio Hili on the 70th minute gave San Gwann the three points which put them on level points with Zabbar St. Patrick in third place.

Mgarr United returned to winning ways as they beat Swieqi United 4-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Goals by Matthew Agius and Jamie Micallef on the 6th and the 19th put Mgarr two goals ahead and although Nicholas Schembri pulled one back on the 39th, Kenneth Aquilina made it 3-1 on the 79th before Jamie Micallef added another three minutes from time.

A goal five minutes from time by Jason Camilleri gave Siggiewi a narrow win over bottom-placed Ghaxaq at the Centenary Stadium.

Attard defeated St. George’s 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Fabian Zammit put Attard ahead on the 40th and Lydon Cuschieri doubled the score on the 77th. Dylan Caruana converted a penalty deep into stoppage time to score a consolation goal for St. George’s.

Zejtun lead the way with 58 points, followed by Qrendi on 54, San Gwann and Zabbar 53, Birzebbuga and Swieqi 33, Siggiewi 31, Attard 27, Mgarr 25, Marsaxlokk 21, St. George’s 19, Gudja 18, Mellieha 17 and Ghaxaq 11.
