Naxxar Lions regained the top spot in the BOV First Division as they defeated Vittoriosa Stars 1-0 in one of the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Yuri de Jesus Messias scored the all-important goal on the 74th minute.

In another match, Melita secured their status with a 2-0 win over bottom-placed Fgura United thanks to a brace by Luke Micallef – a goal on the 12th minute and a penalty on the 94th.

Naxxar lead the way with 45 points, followed by Mqabba on 44, Lija 42, Senglea 41, Qormi 39, Vittoriosa 36, Pietà 32, Sirens and Melita 30, Marsa 25, Zebbug 24, Rabat 21, Gharghur 16 and Fgura 15.
