BOV Division 2: Zejtun, Qrendi extend positive run

Zejtun Corinthians and Qrendi kept marching on in the BOV Second Division as they both registered wins on Sunday. Qrendi are now unbeaten in thirteen matches and Zejtun in ten.

Goals by Adrian Carabott on the 34th and Neil Tabone on the 38th gave Zejtun Corinthians a 2-0 win over Ghaxaq at the Luxol Stadium. On the other hand, Giovanni Galea scored the all-important goal for Qrendi in a narrow win over Zabbar St. Patrick at the Charles Abela Stadium.

Marsaxlokk and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Sirens Stadium while at the Charles Abela Stadium, Mellieha collected three precious points in a 3-1 win over Attard. Mellieha went three goals ahead thanks to Charles Ikenna Kean on the 19th, Nicholas Zammit on the 27th and Ryan Cutajar on the 59th with Jurgen Gauci scoring a consolation goal for Attard sixteen minutes from time.

Gudja United collected three precious points in a dramatic 2-1 win over St. George’s – a direct clash between two teams battling against relegation at the Luxol Stadium. Cleavon Portelli put Gudja ahead on the 24th and although Kurt Tabone converted a penalty to equalise on the 78th minute, Jacob Camilleri notched the winner three minutes in added time.

Mgarr United and Siggiewi shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Sirens Stadium. Lazar Doric put Mgarr ahead on teh 24th but Gary Bugeja equalised on the 65th.

Zejtun lead the way with 61 points, followed by Qrendi on 57, San Gwann on 56, Zabbar 53, Swieqi 34, Birzebbuga 33, Siggiewi 32, Attard 27, Mgarr 26, Marsaxlokk 22, Gudja 21, Mellieha 20, St. George’s 19 and Ghaxaq 11.
