Floriana, Valletta share spoils in draw

Valletta and Floriana shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the National Stadium on Sunday in a match which came to life in the final ten minutes.

A draw which suited neither side as the Citizens only managed to join Balzan in second place on 55 points, four behind leaders Hibernians while the Greens stay in fifth place, one point behind Birkirkara.

Valletta had one change from the team which defeated Balzan in their last outing as Jean Borg replaced Ryan Camilleri. Floriana, on the other hand, lacked Jurgen Pisani and Andre Scicluna. Alex Cini, Enzo Ruiz and Ignacio Varela were named in the starting line-up replacing Scicluna, Pisani and Amadou Samb.

The Citizens took the lead eight minutes from time thanks to substitute Michael Mifsud who entered the area from the right, rounded two defenders before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Justin Haber.

Floriana, however, managed to equalise on the 86th minute thanks to Ryan Camenzuli who took advantage of an erratic clearance by a defender and hit hard past Bartkus.

Referee Glen Tonna then gave marching orders to goalkeeper Justin Haber after showing him a second yellow for provocative gestures, leaving Floriana in ten men for the final minutes.
