Spartans hope to return to winning ways

Hamrun Spartans hope to end their disappointing run on Monday as they take on Mosta in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium.

The Spartans have gone ten matches without a win, earning just three points in the process in draws with Hibs, St. Andrews and Tarxien. A draw would however be enough to secure their Premier League status as they currently lie ten points ahead of the Blues.

Although chances of avoiding one of the bottom two spots seemed remote, Mosta are eager to move further away from Pembroke Athleta. In their last outing, they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 3-1 and a win over Hamrun would put them seven points ahead of Pembroke with just three games to go.

Luke Sciberras is ruled out for Hamrun as he serves a one-match ban but Igor Misan will be back after skipping the last match. Mosta coach Johann Scicluna, on the other hand, could not count on the suspended Yenz Cini.

In the previous rounds, Hamrun beat Mosta 5-2 and 3-0.

Meanwhile in the second match, Sliema Wanderers take on Floriana. A clash between two teams lying in sixth and fifth place respectively but who are fully focussed on the FA Trophy.

The Greens won just two matches out of the last six and lost 2-3 to Hibernians last week. The Wanderers, on the other hand, are unbeaten in five matches and defeated Hamrun 2-0 in their last outing.

Jean Paul Farrugia will be back for Sliema after serving a one-match ban. On the other hand, Floriana welcome back Justin Haber and Steve Pisani.

The Wanderers defeated Floriana twice with identical 3-1 scores.
