Senglea Athletic will be playing in the Premier League next season after defeating Melita 3-0 in one of the BOV First Division matches in programme at the Centenary Stadium on Monday. Senglea will join Lija Athletic and Naxxar Lions who secured promotion during the weekend.
Terence Vella put Steve D’Amato’s side ahead on the 26th minute. Beppe Muscat doubled the score seven minutes later and three minutes from the end of the first half, Juninho Cabral made it 3-0.
In another match, Vittoriosa Stars came from behind to beat Gharghur 5-3. Gharghur went two goals ahead thanks to a brace by Muda Fagbeja on the 26th and 42nd. Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe pulled one back seven minutes in the second half but Muda Fagbeja made it 3-1 five minutes later. However Jamie Pace scored a second goal for Vittoriosa on the 64th minute with Obinna Obiefule equalising on the 70th minute before hitting another two goals on the 77th and 85th to hand Vittoriosa the three points.
Naxxar and Lija lead the way with 51 points, followed by Senglea on 50, Qormi 46, Mqabba 44, Vittoriosa 39, Pietà 38, Sirens and Melita 31, Zebbug 27, Rabat 26, Marsa 25, Gharghur 17 and Fgura 15.
During the weekend, Naxxar face Senglea, Lija take on Mqabba and Qormi meet Sirens in their final matches.
