BOV Division 1: Zebbug Rangers win, Fgura and Gharghur share spoils in draw

Fgura United and Gharghur shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in a clash between the two teams who were relegated from the BOV First Division at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Matthew Gauci put Fgura ahead six minutes in the second half but Muda Fagbeja equalised on the 62nd minute. Cleaven Frendo restored the lead four minutes from time but once again Muda Fagbeja restored equilibrium on the 90th.

Zebbug Rangers defeated Marsa 4-2 in another match. Tomislav Trebovac put the Rangers ahead on the 15th minute and four minutes later, Dario Tabone doubled the score. Luis Andrade de Melo Lima converted a penalty on the 21st minute to reduce the gap and four minutes later, Mark Gauci equalised. However Tomislav Trebovac made it 3-2 on the 41st minute and Dario Tabone sealed the issue with a fourth goal on the 62nd minute.

The three decisive matches for the championship or promotion will be played on Sunday as Lija Athletic take on Mqabba at the Centenary Stadium, Sirens face Qormi at the Luxol Stadium and Senglea Athletic take on Naxxar Lions at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Lija Athletic, Naxxar Lions and Senglea Athletic have already been promoted but are now eye the championship. Lija need to beat Mqabba and hope that Naxxar fail to beat Senglea. Similarly Naxxar need to beat Senglea and hope Lija fail to beat Mqabba. Senglea, on the other hand, have to beat Naxxar and hope that Lija fail to beat Mqabba.

Meanwhile for the play-off spot, a win for Qormi over Sirens would enable them to secure fourth place. On the other hand, in case of a draw and a win for Mqabba, a decider for fourth place between Qormi and Mqabba would be necessary. Mqabba, on the other hand, need to win and hope that Qormi lose to Sirens.

Naxxar and Lija lead the way with 51 points, followed by Senglea on 50, Qormi 46, Mqabba 44, Pietà 41, Vittoriosa 40, Sirens and Melita 31, Zebbug 30, Rabat 27, Marsa 25, Gharghur 18 and Fgura 16.
