Valletta coach Paul Zammit steps down

Paul Zammit tendered his resignation as coach of Valletta FC despite having another year on his contract with the club.

Zammit re-joined Valletta in summer 2015, leading them to the title last season. However this year Valletta finished fourth and only managed to qualify for the UEFA Europa League after Birkirkara’s application for a UEFA licence was rejected. This was Zammit’s second spell at Valletta after leading the club between November 2005 and June 2009, winning a Premier League championship in 2007/08.

Between 2009 and 2015, Zammit, who had started his coaching career at Mosta, coached Birkirkara, winning two championships and an FA Trophy.

Valleta have to act swiftly appoint a new coach, considering that they will be in action in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League in the last week of June.
