Maltese referees’ successful participation in Whitsuntide tournament

Referees Shaun Calleja, Raymond Tabone and Emanuel Calleja, from the 5th to 10th June 2107, participated during the 34th Whitsuntide International Football Tournament held in the Municipality of Malgrat De Mar, in the province of Barcellona, Spain.

One hundred and thirty boys’ and girls’ teams from ten European countries participated, divided into five age groups: Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19.

The three Maltese officials left a very positive impression, clearly manifested through their being appointed to high level matches:

Shaun Calleja, one of our up and coming whistlers, from amongst the 23 referees present, was appointed with two assistant referees from Norway and Spain for the Under-19 Final, and afterwards was commended for his excellent control.

The other two Maltese officials Emanuel Calleja and Raymond Tabone also performed well and controlled matches up to the semi-finals of the Under-15 and Under-17 categories.

The refereeing trio was accompanied by referee observer Tony Briguglio, who was one of the tournament’s officials.
