St. Andrews and Lija Athletic claimed maximum points from their first two matches in the Summer Cup 2017 organised by St. Andrews.
In their first game, Lija Athletic defeated Gzira United 3-1 thanks to goals by Abubakar Bello-Osagie, Lee Joe Schembri and Aaron Sammut with Andrew Cohen scoring a consolation goal for the Maroons. On the other hand, a goal by Kieran Xuereb enabled Lija to beat Pietà Hotspurs in their second game.
St. Andrews beat First Division side Zejtun Corinthians 5-1 thanks to a brace by Kevaun Atkinson and goals by Joseph Farrugia, Kemar Reid and Kemmu Degran Jackson with Yessous Camilleri scoring the only goal for the Corinthians. In their second game Kevaun Atkinson was the hero for St. Andrews with a brace as they defeated Gzira United 3-1. Kemar Reid scored the other goal for Danilo Doncic’s side with Cohen hitting back for Gzira.
Juan Manuel Ruiz Perez gave Pietà Hotspurs a narrow win over Qrendi. The latter also lost their second game to Zejtun Corinthians. Luis Andre de Melo Lima and Paul Lapira gave Zejtun Corinthians a 2-0 win.
