First win for Senglea Athletic as Naxxar hold Valletta in a draw

Senglea Athletic registered their first win in the BOV Premier League as they defeated Lija Athletic 3-2 in a clash between two newly-promoted sides at the National Stadium on Sunday.

Nicola Palmieri put Senglea ahead on the 9th minute and a minute later, Augusto Rene Caseres doubled the score. Abubakar Bello Osagie pulled one back on the 21st minute but Augusto Rene Caseres made it 3-1 on the 69th minute. Erjon Beu converted a penalty on the 77th minute to narrow the score for Lija.

In another match, Valletta disappointed as they were held in a goalless draw by Naxxar Lions.

The Citizens therefore dropped their first points following two far from impressive wins over Mosta and Senglea while Naxxar collected their first point after losing their first two games.

New Naxxar Lions coach Stuart Watkiss handed Austrian goalkeeper Christoph Nicht, Senegalese defender Ndoye Elhadji Oussenyou, English midfielder Scott Fenwick and Argentine striker Daniel Mateo Bustos their debut while MAtteo Piciollo was making his first appearance for the Citizens.
