FA Trophy: Xghajra, Kercem through to second round

Xghajra Tornados and Kercem Ajax made it to the second round of the FA Trophy after eliminating Msida St. Joseph and Oratory Youths respectively in two matches from the first round on Monday.

Dylan Agius put Msida ahead on the 31st minute but Gabriel Bonavia equalised just before half-time. An own goal on the 75th minute handed Xghajra a place in the next round where they will be facing Xewkija Tigers.

At the Gozo Stadium, Kercem Ajax defeated Oratory Youths on penalties following a 2-2 draw at the end of the 90 minutes and 4-4 draw at the end of extra-time. Ralph Ebube Okpokwu put Oratory ahead on the 38th inute but Ognjen Rolovic converted a penalty to level matters ten minutes in the second half. Bartomeu Perello Palou restored the lead for Oratory ten minutes from time with Alen Haska equalising one minute in added time.

The game went into extra-time with Oratory regaining the lead through Joshua Buttigieg on the 94th. Nathaniel Mercieca 3-3 on the 117th and Jean Paul Mizzi put Kercem ahead for the first time on the 120th. However deep into stoppage time, Joshua Buttigieg restored equilibrium. 

In the penalty shoot-out, Petar Kyumyurdzhiev, Jean Paul Mizzi, Ognjen Rolovic and Alen Haska converted for Kercem and Joshua Buttigieg for Oratory.
