BOV Division 2: Narrow win puts Swieqi four points clear

Swieqi United move four points clear in the BOV Second Division thanks to a narrow win over promotion challengers Kalkara in one of the six matches in programme on Saturday.

At the Sirens Stadium, it was a goal by Ion Alin Margarit on the 62nd minute who gave Swieqi the three points.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Santa Lucia returned to winning ways as they defeated Mgarr United 4-0 thanks to goals by Steve Meilak on the 2nd minute, an own goal on the 29th and a brace by Andre Cutajar on the 89th and 90th.

Fgura United joined Kalkara in second place thanks to a 2-0 win over St. George’s at the Luxol Stadium. Gilbert Martin did the job for Fgura with goals on the 40th and 62nd.

Gudja United extended their positive run to five matches as they came from behind to beat Attard 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Kurt Zahra put Attard ahead on the 7th minute and Bobby Ray Vaughan equalised four minutes later but three minutes in added time, Jean Claud Cesare notched the winner.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Siggiewi and Marsaxlokk shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. An Alan Tabone penalty put Marsaxlokk ahead on the 38th minute but a Trayo Grozev penalty levelled matters one minute from the end of the first half. Eman Ciappara made it 2-1 on the 75th minute but four minutes from time, Kenneth Ekezie restored equilibrium.

At the Luxol Stadium, Luqa St. Andrew’s returned to winning ways as they beat Gharghur 5-1. Jason Good opened the score on the 22nd minute and Greg Marney doubled the score ten minutes later. Eduardo de Lima Nicolau pulled one back by converting a penalty on the 37th but a Dylan Attard penalty restored a two-goal lead for Luqa. Wayne Busuttil sealed the issue with two goals on the 78th and 93rd.

Swieqi lead the way with 20 points, followed by Kalkara and Fgura on 16, Gudja, Santa Lucia and Siggiewi 13, Marsaxlokk and Birzebbuga 12, Mgarr 11, Luqa 7, Attard 6, St. George’s 4 and Gharghur 2. St. George’s had two points deducted.
