Valletta take on rivals Hamrun in bid to regain top spot

Valletta will be all out to return to winning ways on Sunday as they take on rivals Hamrun Spartans in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium.

The Citizens were held in a goalless draw by Hibernians in their last outing and a win over the Spartans would put them back at the top of the table. Gzira and Balzan are currently on 24 points, one ahead of the Citizens.

Hamrun are currently seventh on 16 points, winning three out of the last six matches. Earlier this week, they continued to strengthen the squad with the signing of two strikers – Dutch forward Wim Bokila and veteran Italian striker Davide Succi.

For Valletta, Joseph Zerafa is ruled out as he serves a one-match ban.

Meanwhile in the first match, Floriana will be hoping to extend their positive run as they take on Old Firm rivals Sliema Wanderers in a direct clash between two teams lying in fifth place on 20 points.

The Greens are unbeaten in ten matches and are coming from back-to-back wins over Naxxar and Senglea. The Wanderers, on the other hand, claimed maximum points from the last four matches as they defeated Birkirkara, Hibs, Hamrun and St. Andrews.

Sliema could not count on the suspended Frank Temile.
