Mosta hold Sliema in 1-1 draw

Tyrone Farrugia rescued a point for Mosta with a stoppage-time goal as they held Sliema Wanderers in a 1-1 draw at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

The Wanderers therefore joined Hibernians and Gzira United in third place on 24 points while Mosta are still ninth but move to just one point behind Birkirkara.

The Wanderers created the better chances during the first half, going close with a diagonal shot by Muchardi on the 16th which however ended wide and then with a conclusion from inside the area by Nicolae Milinceanu which was cleared off the goal line by Tyrone Farrugia just before the end of the first half.

However one minute in the second half, Frank Temile managed to break the deadlock for Sliema after beating Andreas Vella following a cross from the right by Jefferson Assis.

On the 70th, Jefferson Assis went close to adding another but headed just wide off a cross from the left by Ricardo Calixto Correa and seven minutes from time, the Brazilian striker missed a good opportunity after concluding a fine run with a shot ending just wide. In the dying minutes, substitute Neil Frendo and David Ifeanyi Nworah tried their luck for Mosta but their attempts were neutralised by Zammit.

However two minutes in added time, Mosta notched the equaliser when off a cross from the left, David Ifeanyi Nworah headed the ball down for Tyrone Farrugia whose overhead kick beat the Sliema custodian from close range.
