BOV Division 3: Mellieha take sole leadership

Mellieha took sole leadership in the BOV Third Division thanks to a comfortable 5-1 win over Mtarfa at the Sirens Stadium in one of the four matches in programme on Sunday.

Bryan Bautista put Mellieha ahead on the 16th minute and doubled the score on the 36th and although Adam Wingfield pulled one back on the 44th, just before half-time, Lincoln Micallef made it 3-1. Jean Scholey increased the lead on the 63rd with Bryan Bautista adding another five minutes from time.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Sta. Venera Lightnings were held in a goalless draw by Xghajra Tornados who therefore stay two points behind them in third place.

At the Charles Abela Stadium, Dingli Swallows defeated Msida St. Joseph vs Dingli Swallows 2-1 courtesy of two own goals on the 44th and 70th with Christian Mallia notching the temporary equaliser on the 66th minute.

In another match, Marsaskala registered a 2-1 win over Ghaxaq. Jonathan Bugeja put Marsaskala ahead on the 13th minute but Christian Grixti equalised on the 33rd. However a Nestor Luis Silva Canas penalty four minutes in added time handed Marsaskala the second win of the season.

Mellieha lead the way with 24 points, followed by Sta. Venera on 22, Xghajra 20, Msida 15, Kirkop 13, Mdina 12, Dingli 11, Ghaxaq 10, Zurrieq 8, Marsaskala 7, Mtarfa 6 and Ta’ Xbiex 3.
