Dramatic win for St. Andrews over Hibernians

After losing to Balzan last week and to Floriana in the BOV Super Cup, Hibernians continued to disappoint as they lost 1-2 to St. Andrews at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The Saints came from behind to turn the score in their favour, notching the winner deep into stoppage time. A win which puts Michael Woods’ side on level points with Naxxar Lions and Tarxien Rainbows.

Hibernians managed to take the lead two minutes from the end of the first half when off a cross by Marco Sahanek from the right, Clayton Failla headed home past goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona.

St. Andrews levelled matters six minutes in the second half when off a Kemar Reid served Misael Miranda Gomez on the right and the latter’s low shot gave goalkeeper Andrew Hogg no chance.

On the 90th minute, Hibernians had Johann Bezzina sent off for passing remarks to St. Andrews team manager Alex Busuttil who was also sent off.

Five minutes in added time, St. Andrews notched the winner when substitute Kevaughn Atkinson concluded a good run on the right with a powerful long-distance rising shot which caught Hogg unprepared.
