BOV Division 1: Impressive wins for Zejtun, Zebbug

Zejtun Corinthians and Zebbug Rangers registered impressive wins in two of the four BOV First Division matches in programme on Sunday.

At the Centenary Stadium, a hat-trick by new recruit Johan Castano gave Zejtun Corinthians a 3-0 win over Qrendi. The Colombian striker put Zejtun ahead on the 28th, converted a penalty on the 71st and sealed the issue with a third goal six minutes from time.

Zebbug Rangers managed to beat third-placed Mqabba 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium courtesy of Mauro Bonnici eight minutes in the second half and an own goal on the 65th.

Leaders Qormi returned to winning ways as they defeated Marsa 2-1 in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Jose Lucas Caetano da Silva put Qormi ahead on the 68th and although Luka Mijic equalised on the 81st minute, two mintues later, Luke Busuttil handed Qormi the three points.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Vittoriosa Stars beat San Gwann by the odd goal in five. Joseph JoJo Ogunnupe converted a penalty on the 4th minute for Vittoriosa but Godwin Blessing Henshaw equalised on the half-hour. An own goal restored the lead for Vittoriosa two minutes from the end of the first half and Ogunnupe added another on the 68th with Henshaw reducing the gap for San Gwann eleven minutes from time.

Qormi lead the way with 32 points, followed by Pietà on 30, Mqabba 28, Zebbug and Vittoriosa 24, Sirens and Zejtun 20, Qrendi 19, San Gwann 15, Pembroke 13, Melita 11, Marsa and Zabbar 10 and Rabat 4.
