BOV Women’s League: Dramatic win for Hibernians

Birkirkara and Hibernians have preserved their championship leadership in the with victories over Kirkop United and Mġarr United respectively.

The Stripes broke little sweat in overcoming Kirkop 5-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Tracy Teuma opened a two-goal lead for the defending champions within the first 24 minutes after putting them ahead on the 9th. League top scorer Raina Giusti scored her 17th goal of the season on the 45th, virtually wrapping up the victory. Sarah Urpani on the 56th and Kim Parnis on the 85th rounded up the 5-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Hibernians were handed a tougher task against third place Mġarr at the Mgarr Ground. In fact, the Paolites were trailing until 20 minutes from time when Shona Zammit levelled terms after Brenda Borg had put the Greens ahead on the 8th minute. When everything was set for Birkirkara to take a narrow lead in the championship over Hibs, the latter snatched an injury-time winner through Jade Flask.

Elsewhere, Raiders (Luxol) hit six past Tarxien Rainbows at the Mgarr Ground with Leanne Micallef grabbing a brace in the early stages of the game on the 30th and 38th. After the change of ends, Anna Aloisio (62′), Rebecca Vella (75′), Monique Sultana (80′) and Kylie Monaco (83′) added four other goals to seal the win.

In the only game from Section B, Fgura United took maximum points against pointless Mosta at the Fgura Ground. Janice Pace (22′) and Ilenia Navarro (47′) listed their names on the scoresheet for Fgura.
