Hibernians move fourth as St. Andrews stun Floriana

Hibernians moved fourth in the BOV Premier League table thanks to a 2-0 win over Gzira United at the Hibernians Stadium. A win which puts the Paolites two points ahead of Floriana and just two behind the Maroons.

Hibs coach Mark Miller was unable to field his best formation due to the absence of Jackson Lima and Joseph Mbong. Gzira, on the other hand, had two players making their debut – Kris Thackray and Prince Loïc Destin Mambouana.

The Paolites had a perfect start, taking the lead on the 5th minute when off a cross by Jurgen Degabriele from the right, Clayton Failla’s diagonal shot gave goalkeeper Justin Haber no chance.

Eight minutes in the second half, Hibernians doubled the score when off a Giorgi Gorozia freekick, Joao Moreira rose high to head home past the Gzira goalkeeper.

  1. In the Hibs vs Gzira match, not only Jackson Lima and Joseph Mbong were missing, but also Marcelo Dias and Gomez Riu.
