Five-star Birkirkara make it six wins in a row

Srdjan Dimitrov notched a hat-trick as Birkirkara registered a sixth consecutive win, defeating Senglea Athletic 5-0 at the National Stadium on Sunday.

The Stripes now join Hibernians in fourth place, just two points behind third-placed Gzira and six behind Valletta.

Both sides had new faces in their squads as Waldemar Acosta and Terence Agius made their debut for Birkirkara while Gregori Braga de Souza made his first appearance for Senglea.

Birkirkara managed to take the lead on the 35th minute thanks to Srdjan Dimitrov whose fine shot, wehn served by Scicluna, gave goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia no chance.

One minute from the end of the first half, the Stripes doubled the score thanks to a Jake Grech penalty after Ryan Scicluna was brought down inside the area by Steve Bonnici.

Paul Zammit’s side increased the lead three minutes in the second half thanks to Srdjan Dimitrov who received a through pass and all alone, in front of the goalkeeper, placed the ball at the back of the net.

On the 64th minute, Sergio Uyi headed the ball past Farrugia for an own goal following a cross from the right by Herrera.

Srdjan Dimitrov completed a hat-trick on the 72nd minute when he received a through pass by Terence Agius and slotted the ball past the Senglea custodian.
