Futsal: Luxol, Valletta march on

Luxol and Valletta continue to share the top spot in the Elite Round of the Gatorade Futsal League as Luxol defeated Mriehel ESS 2-1 and Valletta beat Swieqi United 4-2.

Luxol opened the score after eight minutes of play through Giancarlo Sammut. Three minutes later, Essa Benatiya levelled the matters from the penalty spot but Luxol captain Mark Zammit made it 2-1.

On the other hand, Murtaz Kakabadze scored twice for Valletta while Dylan Musu and new signing Camillo Andres Gomes Vanegas scored the other two goals. Shota Chanukvadze and Christian Wismayer replied for Swieqi United.

Standings Elite: Valletta and Luxol 36; Hamrun Tre Angeli and Swieqi United 25; Mriehel ESS 21.

In Division One Pietà Nordiska found no difficulty in beating bottom team Junior College 7-2. Pietà gained a comfortable 5-0 lead before the end of the first half. Kurt Bartolo’s hat-trick, a brace by Roberto Camargo and a goal apiece for Ryan Mifsud and Leandros Calleja were the scorers for Pietà. Gilbert Amato Gauci and Tyrone Pace scored for Junior College.
A hat-trick by William Barbosa led Tarxien JMI to a stunning 8-2 win against Swieqi United U21. Armando Djepali, Craig Pickard, Claudio Venuto and Bennett Schembri also found the net for Tarxien JMI, the other goal being an own goal. Swieqi United’s youngsters reduced the gap through goals by Owen Fiteni and Jurgen Ciantar.
Qormi returned to the winning ways as they won 6-2 against Marsascala. Qormi scored thanks through Bertram Azzopardi’s hat-trick, a brace from Elvis Pajo and Clayton Borg’s goal. Khail Drago and an own goal reduced the arrears for Marsascala.
