Hibs, Sliema aim at returning to winning ways

Hibernians and Sliema Wanderers will be hoping to return to winning ways as the two teams face each other in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium on Sunday.

Six points separate the two teams as the Paolites are currently sixth on 36 points and the Wanderers seventh. Hibs dropped four points in the last three matches after being held in goalless draws by Mosta and Naxxar, although they beat Senglea 5-1. Sliema, on the other hand, won just one out of the last eigth matches, losing to Birkirkara and being held in a draw by Tarxien in the last two matches.

Sliema defeated Hibernians 1-0 in the first round apart from beating them on penalties in the FA Trophy quarter-finals.

Meanwhile in the first match, Hamrun Spartans and Senglea Athletic chase more precious points in their bid to move to a more comfortable mid-table position. The Spartans are currently eighth on 28 points, six ahead of Senglea who are currently fifth from bottom.

Hamrun returned to winning ways last week as they defeated Mosta 2-0 while Senglea picked three precious points in a 2-1 win over St. Andrews in a direct clash.

In the first round, the Spartans defeated Senglea 3-1.
