Tarxien Rainbows cruise past Lija

Tarxien Rainbows registered a 4-0 win over Lija Athletic in the bottom of the table clash in the BOV Premier League at the Centenary Stadium on Friday. Tarxien therefore move fourth from bottom, one point ahead of St. Andrews and two ahead of Naxxar, leaving Lija at the bottom of the table on just five points as they suffered the eleventh consecutive defeat.

The Rainbows took the lead on the 17th minute when Andre Scicluna hit home from close range after goalkeeper Luke Bonnici managed to block an angled shot from the left.

Tarxien doubled the score on the 31st minute thanks to Samba Tounkara, who slotted the ball past Bonnici following a cross by Ricardinho from the right.

Five minutes from the end of the first half, Samba Tounkara made it 3-0 with a fine shot from the edge of the area which hit the foot of the post before ending at the back of the net, following an assist by Gabriel Aquilina.

Tarxien increased the lead on the 79th minute thanks to Gabriel Aquilina who took the rebound after a first-timer by Matthew Brincat was partially saved by Bonnici, beating the Lija goalkeeper with a shot from the edge of the area.
