Victoria Hotspurs move twelve points clear

Victoria Hotspurs moved twelve points clear in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they registered a 5-0 win over Kercem Ajax on Sunday while Nadur Youngsters were held in a draw on Friday.

A Christian Mercieca brace – on the 7th and 45th – gave the Hotspurs a two-goal lead. Elton da Silva (56′), Emiliano Lattes (81′) and Galder Dwomoh Lombas (86′) extended the lead further during the second half.

Gharb Rangers earned a point in a 3-3 draw with Nadur Youngsters on Friday. Josef Portelli put the Rangers ahead on the 22nd but Stanimir Miloskovic equalised three minutes later although Marcelo Barbosa restored the lead on the 27th and Ardit Shkjan made it 3-1 just before half-time. Late in the game, Nadur scored twice to level matters thanks to Dewide dos Santos on the 84th and Stefan Cassar two minutes later.

Ghajnsielem claimed three important points on Friday as they defeated SK Victoria Wanderers 3-2. Marco Antonio Morgon Filho put the Blacks ahead on the 42nd but one minute in the second half, Ian Xuereb equalised and Ryan Grech put the Wanderers 2-1 ahead on the 54th. However Marco Antonio Morgon Filho levelled matters on the 75th and two minutes later, Alberto Xuereb notched the winner.

On Sunday, Oratory Youths closed in on SK Victoria Wanderers as they beat Xewkija Tigers 5-2. Omar Xuereb put the Tigers ahead on the 12th minute and although Gibson Botshelo Mfuluane equalised before half-time, Daniel Bogdanovic restored the lead on the 56th. However the Youths made a brilliant comeback, turning the score in their favour with goals by Ralph Ebube Okpokwu on the 71st, 75th and 90th and Charles Mercieca on the 90th.

THe Hotspurs lead the way with 46 points, followed by Nadur on 34, Xewkija 28, Kercem 20, Ghajnsielem 18, Gharb 15, SKVW 11 and Oratory 10.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Munxar Falcons and Sannat Lions extended their positive run as they registered wins at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Saturday.

Sannat Lions defeated St Lawrence Spurs 2-0 thanks to goals by Mohammed Senussi Telessi on the 13th minute and Mark Muscat on the 62nd.

On the other hand, Munxar Falcons beat Xaghra United 3-1. Jordi Parnis converted a penalty on the 4th and scored another three minutes later to put Munxar two goals ahead. Manuel Galea converted a penalty on the 43rd to reduce the gap but Christian Bugeja made it 3-1 on the 77th.
