BOV Division 1: Hotspurs move back in second place

Pietà Hotspurs moved back in second place in the BOV First Division, just four points behind leaders Qormi aas they defeated Sirens 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium in one of the three matches in programme on Monday.

Jan Busuttil put the Hotspurs ahead on the 27th minute and Gabriel Mensah doubled the score eight minutes in the second half.

Marsa moved fourth from bottom thanks to a 4-2 win over Rabat Ajax at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Mark Gauci put Marsa ahead on the 9th minute and Aidan Azzopardi equalised on the 16th with Joseph Caruana converting a penalty for the Magpies four minutes in the second half. Mark Gauci restored equilibrium on the 54th with Dylan Pirotta making it 3-2 for Marsa on the 63rd before Luka Mijic sealed the issue with a fourth goal as he converted a penalty on the 73rd.

In another match, Melita rescued a point in a 2-2 draw with Vittoriosa Stars. Jean Pierre Attard gaveMelita the lead on the 9th minute but Liam Gauci equalised on the 16th. Vittoriosa forged ahead on the 89th thanks to Joseph JoJo Ogunnupe but deep into added time, Emilio Cornago San Pedro levelled matters for the Amateurs.

With three games to go, Qormi lead the way with 50 points, followed by Pietà on 46, Zejtun 44, Mqabba 42, Zebbug 41, San Gwann 39, Vittoriosa 35, Qrendi 26, Pembroke and Sirens 25, Marsa 21, Zabbar 20, Melita 15 and Rabat 5.
