BOV Division 1: Stoppage-time goal hands Qormi promotion

Qormi secured promotion to the BOV Premier League as they registered a dramatic 2-1 win over Vittoriosa Stars at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in one of the four BOV First Division matches in programme on Sunday. Qormi move four points clear of Pietà and eight clear of Zejtun with two games to go.

Michael Camilleri put Qormi ahead on the 40th minute but Emmanuel Mbong equalised on the 58th minute. However three minutes in added time, Lubos Adamec scored to hand Qormi the three points.

Marsa claimed three important points in the battle against relegation as they defeated promotion challengers Zebbug Rangers 3-2 at the Centenary Stadium. Rafael de Fex Marriaga put Marsa ahead on the 13th minute but Miguel Attard equalised on the 37th and just before the end of the first half, Arilson Mello da Silva converted a penalty to make it 2-1 for Zebbug. Marsa restored equilibrium thanks to an own goal on the 54th and Luka Mijic made it 3-2 twelve minutes from time.

Melita narrowed the gap with Zabbar St. Patrick as they defeated Qrendi 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Alan Borg Olivier opened the score for Melita on the 7th minute and although Kenneth Abela equalised on the 75th, goalkeeper Nicholas Grima notched the winner deep into stoppage time.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Sirens beat Rabat Ajax 4-0. Michael Micallef put Sirens ahead on half-hour and Daniel Agius doubled the score on the 67th with the same two players scoring another goal each – on the 83rd and 84th –
to hand the St. Paul’s Bay side a comfortable win.

Qrendi lead the way with 53 points, followed by Pietà on 49, Zejtun 45, Mqabba 43, Zebbug 41, San Gwann 39, Vittoriosa 35, Pembroke and Sirens 28, Qrendi 26, Marsa 24, Zabbar 20, Melita 18 and Rabat 5.
