Stripes remain atop BOV Women’s League championship

Birkirkara maintained their one-point lead over Hibernians after easing past Raiders (Luxol) 5-0 to take victory home and send a clear message to Hibernians in the BOV Women’s League. Meanwhile, the Paolites broke little sweat to overcome Kirkop United by six goals to nil to keep their title hopes alive.

Despite scoring five against Raiders, Birkirkara had to wait until the third minute of the first-half stoppage time when Raina Giusti broke the deadlock. Tracy Teuma made it two two minutes inside the second half before Alishia Sultana added a third past the hour mark. Teuma found her second goal of the night ten minutes from time while Giusti also managed to grab a brace, scoring her 21st goal of the season to seal the 5-0 victory.

Hibernians, on their part, made sure of their victory in the first half as they opened a three-goal lead inside 25 minutes. Ylenia Carabott drew first blood on 16 minutes from the penalty spot with Francesca Chircop scoring twice on 21 and 25 minutes. Chircop collected her hat-trick on an inspiring night when she made it 4-0 on 54 minutes. Dorianne Theuma found a fifth, converting a penalty kick 15 minutes from time before Jade Flask wrapped up the win in the closing stages of the game.

Meanwhile, third place Mġarr United secured a 5-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows. Brenda Borg scored twice on 5 and 27 minutes. Roxanne Micallef found the net on 20 minutes. After the change of ends, Rebecca D’Agostino made it 4-0 before Natasha Pace sealed the points 15 minutes from time.

Leah Alice Ayres was the hero for Mosta as she scored three times to earn the Blues their first win of the season over Fgura United, in the only encounter from the Relegation Pool.
