BOV Division 1: Qormi champions, Zejtun take play-off spot, Melita relegated

Qormi FC were crowned champions in the BOV First Division as they defeated Qrendi 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Michael Camilleri scored the all-important goal on the 44th minute and Luke Busuttil doubled the score one minute from time.

Zejtun Corinthians took third place and the Play-Off spot for a place in the BOV Premier League after defeating Vittoriosa Stars 6-0 thanks to goals by Adam Smeir on the 2nd, Adrian Carabott on the 17th, Johan Castano on the 18th and 37th and Yessous Camilleri on the 40th. Saturday Nanapere scored a sixth goal deep into stoppage time. The Corinthians will be facing the team finishing third from bottom in the BOV Premier League.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Melita lost 0-3 to San Gwann and were therefore relegated to Division 2. Sergio Hili put San Gwann ahead on the 31st minute, David Fenech doubled the score on the 40th and two minutes later, Petar Kanzurov made it 3-0.

Zabbar St. Patrick claimed the three points in a most comfortable way as they beat Rabat Ajax 6-0 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to five goals by Kurt Borg – a penalty on the 8th and goals on the 15th, 22nd, 40th and 53rd – and Dylan Micallef on the 75th.

The only issue yet to be settled is which team will be facing Swieqi United, between Zabbar St. Patrick or Qrendi, in the Play-Off for a place in the BOV First Division next season.

Qormi lead the way with 56 points, followed by Pietà on 52, Zejtun 48, Zebbug 44, Mqabba 43, San Gwann 42, Vittoriosa 35, Pembroke and Sirens 28, Marsa 27, Qrendi 26, Zabbar 23, Melita 18 and Rabat 5.
