The Malta Football Association has decided to revise the last-day fixtures of the 2017/18 BOV Premier League.
This revision has been made to ensure that the teams involved in the title race as well as the three clubs still in contention for fourth place (which could potentially mean a Europa League spot) play their fixtures at the same time.
Fri-20-Apr 19:00 Centenary Stadium Naxxar Lions vs Senglea Athletic
Fri-20-Apr 19:00 Hibernians Stadium Sliema Wanderers vs Mosta
Fri-20-Apr 19:00 National Stadium Tarxien Rainbows vs St. Andrews
Sat-21-Apr 16:00 Centenary Stadium Birkirkara vs Hamrun Spartans
Sat-21-Apr 16:00 Hibernians Stadium Hibernians vs Balzan
Sat-21-Apr 16:00 National Stadium Valletta vs Gzira United
Sat-21-Apr 16:00 Victor Tedesco Stadium Lija Athletic vs Floriana
Valletta and Balzan share the top spot with 55 points and in their final match, they face Gzira United and Hibernians respectively. Both Valletta and Balzan need a win and that the other team fails to win. In case both teams win or both teams are held in draws, a decider would be necessary.
Gzira United are sure of third place but Hibernians are still engaged in the battle for fourth place which could mean a place in the UEFA Europa League should Balzan or Valletta win the FA Trophy. Hibs are currently fifth on 43 points, on level points with Floriana, one behind Birkirkara.
Birkirkara would take fourth place should they beat Hamrun while a draw would be enough should both Floriana and Hibernians fail to beat Lija Athletic and Balzan respectively. In case of a draw for Birkirkara, a win for either Floriana and Hibs would put the winner in fourth place. If both Floriana and Hibs win and Birkirkara fail to win, Floriana and Hibernians would end their commitments in fourth place and a decider would be necessary if the fourth-placed team would qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
Meanwhile in the battle against relegation, St. Andrews, Mosta, Tarxien Rainbows and Naxxar Lions are still involved. St. Andrews and Mosta are currently on the 23-point mark, one ahead of Tarxien and four ahead of Naxxar. St. Andrews and Tarxien face each other in a direct clash, Naxxar take on Senglea and Mosta face Sliema.
St. Andrews need a draw from the clash with Tarxien to secure their status. In case of a defeat, they hope Mosta lose to Sliema in order to stay on level points with Mosta and a decider would be necessary to determine which team will face Zejtun Corinthians in the Play-Off.
Mosta have to win to make sure of securing their Premier League status. A draw would be enough should Tarxien fail to beat St. Andrews.
Tarxien have to beat St. Andrews to avoid relegation while with a draw, they would hope Mosta lose to Sliema and they would end on level points with Mosta and a decider would be necessary to determine which who will face Zejtun Corinthians in the Play-Off. In both cases, Naxxar would be relegated.
Naxxar need a win over Senglea and hope St. Andrews beat Tarxien in order to join them on level points. In that way, Naxxar and Tarxien would end their commitments on level points and a decider would be necessary to determine which team will be relegated and who will face Zejtun Corinthians in the Play-Off.
